Finding a Path Back to Activity After Lockdown Restrictions Ease

This week our podcast conversation is with Emma Kessie who explores returning to physical activity.

The conversation picks up on the loosening of lockdown restrictions and the government’s road map to recovery. It recognises that many people will be feeling different things about returning to outdoor sport and activity.

Our host Gareth Dix pulls on Emma’s experiences of keeping active during lockdown whilst being a busy mum of five children.

Emma touches on her difficult time being diagnosed with COVID just after completing the virtual London marathon. She talks about her methodical approach to recovery from illness and re-engaging with her activity routines.

Emma gives her top tips for helping others make time for movement, and for us all to be aware that everyone will be in a different place. They will need to go at their own pace as people return to more active routines in organised settings.

In addition to the podcast Emma wanted to highlight the importance of community in helping each other through the lockdown, especially when she was so unwell with cooking meals and walking dogs.

Like many others, Emma has since volunteered for the NHS, picking up prescriptions, doing food shopping, and marshalling at vaccine centres. She believes that community is central to keeping people healthy and connected.

“At Active Devon we passionately believe that being active is important as ever. However, safety is paramount, and it is crucial that everyone follows current government guidance while continuing to stay active. #StayActiveStaySafe.”
