Guidance on Being Active Outdoors During the Coronavirus Outbreak

#StayActiveStaySafe

We passionately believe that being active is as important as ever. However, safety is paramount, and it is crucial that everyone follows current government guidance if leaving their home to exercise. See here for more Guidance On Being Active, and for further advice visit Get Active at Home. #StayActiveStaySafe

Sport England has compiled a simple summary of the guidance, both for people wanting to take part and for facility and activity providers.

If you’re planning on leaving your home to exercise we recognise that depending on the activity you are planning to take part in or the place you are planning to visit you may want some more specific advice. For instance, some activities and sports are now possible but with certain restrictions to ensure safety, and some beaches, beauty spots and other outdoor areas may still be closed or operating different access arrangements. Our advice is to check with the organisation that looks after the place you’re visiting before you set off.

Staying safe when visiting Devon’s beautiful beaches and countryside isn’t just about staying safe from coronavirus.

Beach lifeguarding arrangements, which are usually in place, are currently significantly reduced. Please check the RNLI website for advice based on the specific beach you plan to visit.

Before heading out to swim in lakes, rivers and the sea, please review the latest guidance from Royal Lifesaving Society.

The government’s specific guidance on access to green space also covers the things you should do when visiting the countryside.

Finally, please visit this article from the British Mountaineering Council for safety advice that covers things you should do and think about if you’re heading out walking or climbing in Devon’s great outdoors.
