Why are we hosting The Future of Public Leisure Conversation?
As part of our locality role advocating for sport, physical activity and movement we provide ongoing strategic support for our Local Authority Leisure colleagues. We do this by chairing, convening and facilitating space for Council leisure leads to work together on some of the considerable challenges facing the sector in the last few years, in particular navigating through and beyond a pandemic, and more recently responding to escalating energy and operational costs, alongside workforce retention issues.
We were delighted to see the Sport England Future of Public Leisure report in December 2022 and took some time to discuss this with colleagues across Devon. As a result, and taking on board feedback from partners, we have decided to hold a face to face ‘Future of Public Leisure Conversation’ in Plymouth on 27 September.
Who will be attending?
This is a face to face, invite only event due to the room capacity. It is aimed at our Local Authority Leisure partners working in Devon and also an extended invitation to Active Partnership colleagues working within the leisure space in the South West region.
What will the day cover?
You can view our speakers and agenda here. On the day, you will hear from keynote speakers, have the chance to share and debate on key issues and time for round table networking opportunities.
We will consider ways of collaborative working to further support the leisure sector through the next period in line with some of the themes in the Sport England report such as ‘Strengthening the Connection to Health’.
There will be a light lunch provided, facilitating the chance to catch up with colleagues.
The day will close with an informal Q&A panel.
Where will the event take place?
The event is at the Plymouth Life Centre, one of the country’s leading facilities for swimming and diving. We are grateful to Plymouth Active Leisure for providing a space at the Life Centre. Both Plymouth Active Leisure and Plymouth City Council are valued partners in our place based system transformation approach to tackle inequality through sport, physical activity and movement.
