Active Devon Announces the Appointment of New Chair of the Board
Active Devon’s CEO, Matt Evans, is delighted to announce that Jim Nye has been appointed as our new Chair of the Board.
Jim is highly experienced in strategic leadership, having occupied numerous senior command positions during his career. He is the Assistant Chief Constable in the Devon and Cornwall Police, the UK police lead for maritime policing and is an executive member of the European Association of Airport and Seaport Police.
In addition, he has significant charity leadership experience gained as Chair of the road safety charity The Honest Truth. Jim is hugely passionate about the active lifestyles agenda and is a current member of the Active Devon Board.
Jim succeeds Holly Woodford who has stepped down following her relocation away from Devon. Holly served as a Board member since 2013, with four and a half years as Chair.
Under her leadership Active Devon has continued to grow its reputation as a leading Active Partnership. She oversaw the development of an ambitious new strategy for Active Devon and the subsequent realignment of the organisation’s team to ensure it is best placed to tackle our future challenges.
Commenting on the change in the Board’s leadership Matt Evans, Active Devon CEO, said:
“I am delighted that Jim has been appointed as Chair. He is a proven leader and his enthusiasm for our work is infectious. He has a wide network within Devon and I am certain that he will continue to ensure that the Board sets ambitious and challenging aspirations for Active Devon. I and the whole team are really looking forward to working with him.”
At the same time, it is obviously sad to be losing a Board Member of Holly’s calibre. Her contribution and commitment as Chair has been exceptional. Her strategic awareness, connection within our sector and constant striving for success have been truly inspirational to the Board and the team. She leaves with our enormous thanks and very best wishes.”
Jim takes up the appointment with immediate effect, commenting:
“I am delighted to have this opportunity to be the new Chair of Active Devon. Active Devon has evolved significantly in recent years and is a leader in its field. I have seen first-hand how hard the staff have worked to transform the way we work with communities and partners across Devon. Can I personally thank Holly for her commitment and leadership as Chair over the last three years’, and, on behalf of the Board, wish her well for the future.”
Holly Woodford, Chair since 2013, said:
“My time as Active Devon Chair has been both exciting and challenging as we readied ourselves to make a significant impact on physical activity levels across Devon. I leave behind an organisation that is driven by passion, a clear and compelling strategy and a team of exceptional individuals that together will make a difference to thousands of lives.
I feel humbled to have led such an incredible team of staff and Board Members. I am delighted Jim Nye, who has great vison and energy, will be leading the team going forward and wish him and the team all the best for the future.”
